Due: Thursday, December 1, 2008
Introduction: You are a reporter for the local newspaper in Salem. You have to report on how the alleged witchcraft is affecting the area.
Task: You may report on an individual or on the trials themselves or on the weather or local events. In some cases, be creative and in others, you must strive for historical accuracy.
Process: You will design a newspaper, complete with historically accurate pictures depicting the life of the Puritans during the time of the witch trials. The paper must be four pages in total and must be large enough to be displayed and viewed by others. You will present your paper in front of the class, with each student reporting on their contribution. You may use the resources to the right to aid you in this project.
Evaluation: Students will be graded as a group and as an individual. The group grade will be out of 15 while the individual grade will be out of 35. The grade will be determined based on content, accuracy, grammar, and effort. A typed MLA Format Works Cited page must by turned in with the project. It will be averaged in with the group grade.
Conclusion: In doing this project, students will gain a better understanding of the reality of the time of the Puritans, in particular the time period of the setting of The Crucible, the witch trials. |
